Sample of a homestay trip to Lille, France, by train, and with 9 hours French language tuition and cultural visits.
Day 1 - Train journey and guided visit of Lille
Check in on board a Eurostar train bound to Lille. Picnic lunch (not included in the price). Arrival at Lille Europe train station and leave luggage in automatic lockers. Transfer by public transport to the city centre. Guided tour in French of the city centre. Transfer by public transport to the meeting point with the host families and full board accommodation.
Day 2 - French language lessons and cookery workshop
9h00 - 12h00 : French language lessons. Picnic lunch. Transfer by public transport. Pupils will be divided into two groups. While the first group attends a cookery workshop, the second group will be shopping in the town centre. Then they will swap activities ; cookery workshop for the second group. Return to the host families in the evening.
Day 3 - French lessons, sweet factory and art museum
9h00 - 12h00 : French language lessons in two teaching groups. Picnic lunch. Transfer by public transport to a local sweet factory : see and learn how nougat is produced from 4 ingredients, and taste the various flavours. Transfer by public transports to Roubaix. Visit 'La Piscine', a modern art museum with a large collection of paintings and sculptures, housed in a refurbished swimming pool. Return to the host family in the evening.
Day 4 - Brussels and chocolate
Depart by coach towards Belgium and its capital Brussels. Guided tour on foot of the city centre and its monuments. Picnic lunch. Transfer by coach and visit 'Planet Chocolat', the famous chocolate museum. Return to Lille by coach at the end of the afternoon.
Day 5 - French lessons, Lille and bowling
9h00 - 12h00 : French language lessons in two teaching groups. Picnic lunch. Transfer by public transport to Lille city centre. Visit le Beffroi de l'Hôtel de Ville overlooking the city since the end of its construction in 1931. Transfer by public transport for a game of tenpin bowling and a goûter. Return to the host families at the end of the afternoon.
Day 6 - Host family
Day spent with the host family.
Day 7 - Host family and return journey
Day spent with the host family. Transfer by public transport to Lille Europe station. Check in on a Eurostar train. Arrival at St Pancras International.
